Ping sweep

Ping a set of hosts on a network to see which are online.

In bash:

counter=$START

while [ $counter -le $END ]
do
  ip=$BASE.$counter
  if ping -c 1 -t 1 $ip > /dev/null 2> /dev/null
  then
    echo "$ip responds"
